The launch of the partnership will be the first of three Legal Aid Society - Employment Law Center's legal advice clinics addressing Workers Rights concerns and issues on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the SVILC office in San Jose. The Workers' Rights Clinic assists individuals with work-related issues such as: unemployment issues, wrongful termination, unpaid wages, harassment and discrimination in the workplace, retaliation from employers, help with Family and Medical Leave Act and California Paid Family Leave Act issues, assistance with representation at the Labor Commission and the Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board, and other related issues. Law students will interview clients about workplace problems under the supervision of an employment law attorney. There will also be a workerÕs compensation and Social Security attorney. Those seeking assistance must make an appointment to attend the clinic. Please call the Law Center on Wednesday, September 28 to make an appointment. KGACLC is a non-profit organization that provides free legal services to the community. It is part of Santa Clara University School of Law.ÊThey provide pro bono advice and representation in several areas including workers rights (through the Legal Aid Society - Employment Law Center's Workers Rights Clinic that they host), consumer rights, and immigration rights. Depending on the available resources, the KGACLC may decide to offer full legal representation to a limited number of clients seen during its legal clinics. Although these representation services are free, there may be other costs that will not be covered by the KGACLC.
