SVILC consumers getting assistance in transportation systems and in home supportive services
Individual Advocacy
Individual advocacy services are available to Consumers who need help finding their way through systems such as health care, transportation, In-Home Supportive Services, and Social Security. SVILC staff members directly assist individuals in obtaining their legal and economic benefits or refer them to agencies that may provide the appropriate services.
Systems Advocacy
Systems advocacy involves SVILC working with other community groups and carrying out activities to make system-wide changes for people with disabilities. Examples of this include advocating for the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act and giving testimony at public hearings.

SVILC's Systems Advocate works with other ILCs and disability organizations on local and statewide legislative issues including:
  • Adopting Universal Design features in all new subsidized housing construction in California
  • Advocating for accessible voter machines
  • Ensuring adherence to the Olmstead Act
  • Establishing a Santa Clara County Housing Task Force (to create a five-year plan to address special needs housing and homelessness)
  • Saving Paratransit services for seniors and people with disabilities
